THE HARVARD MUSIC FESTIVAL
The Harvard Music Festival is a weeklong summer chamber music festival in historic Harvard, Massachusetts, with many events open to the public. Participating professionally-bound musicians work together in their small ensembles with daily coaching. In their teaching, our coaches believe that a compelling performance emerges through a deep understanding of all music, past and present. Mentored by coaches who are renowned musicians and teachers, groups work to shape their music in the rehearsals, coachings and masterclasses, culminating in concerts for the community in local venues.
THE FESTIVAL WEEK
The festival week has become a time for exploration, creativity, and first encounters. The festival’s primary goal is to build connections within and beyond the community, through the shared experience of music making, close listening, and performances. Because of the many open events, the audience may observe the musicians’ process and build relationships with them, some of which have continued beyond the festival. These visiting musicians, who bring diverse perspectives, have come from around the world: from Boston to East Asia, Europe and South America. As audiences enjoy first encounters with intriguing, new soundscapes as well as a deeper understanding of the familiar, the festival week is a time for exploration and connection.
