Concert in Your Living Room (CIYLR) FAQS

What is the “Concert in Your Living Room” experience?

The “Concert in Your Living Room” (CIYLR) is an intimate, private recital by classical guitarist Dave McLellan, offered to donors contributing $1,000.00 or more to Fivesparks. You can enjoy this unique musical performance in the comfort of your home with family, friends, or loved ones.

Dave is committed to using music to change lives and help charitable causes. “Concert In your Living Room” was launched in 1998, and since then Dave has delivered private recitals of beloved works in the solo classical guitar literature in intimate settings such as the living rooms of private homes. Clients have included Habitat for Humanity, Greater Boston Food Bank, Animal Rescue League of Boston, Leukemia Lymphoma Society of New England, Worcester Chamber Music Society, Boston Children’s Museum, Pan Mass Challenge, and many churches and humanitarian organizations.

How do I qualify for a concert?

To qualify, you need to make a single donation of $1,000.00 or more to Fivesparks.

How do I make my donation and schedule the concert?

Once your donation is received, either online through our website or by check through the mail, we’ll connect you directly with Dave to coordinate scheduling of your concert.

May I schedule the concert on a specific date?

Yes, subject to availability. Concert scheduling is flexible on a “first come, first served” basis and must be arranged directly with Dave, based on mutual availability and preferences. You can plan your concert for any occasion that suits you best. Concert should be scheduled to take place within 1 calendar year of donor’s receipt of our gift acknowledgement.

What kind of music will Dave perform?

Dave presents an hour of music from solo classical guitar literature, interspersed with background on the composers and their works, the history of the instrument and amusing anecdotes. The performance is a formal concert, with audience Q&A as desired. It may not be used as background music for a party or other function.

How many guests may attend the concert?

The number of guests depends on the space available in your home or venue. Because the concert is private and personalized, you may invite as many or as few people as you wish.

Is this concert limited to homes only?

No, the concert can be held in any intimate setting, such as a garden, community room, or private venue, as long as it meets Dave’s requirements for a live acoustic performance.  Special planning and discussion is needed if you opt for an outdoor event, as weather, temperature, and sound amplification are important considerations.

May I give this concert as a gift?

Absolutely! The CIYLR experience makes a thoughtful and unique gift for special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, or holidays. You can donate in someone else’s name and present them with this incredible experience.

Are there any restrictions on how the performance may be used?

 – The performance may not be used as background music for a party or other function.
 – Your concert event may not be used to raise funds for another charity.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Contributions are considered charitable deductions as allowed by law. The fair market value of the concert is $750. For complete tax information, please consult a tax advisor.

How will my donation benefit Fivesparks?
