SUMMARY:Birds! Exhibit Event - Birds\, Bats & Bugs: The Underlying Unity of Flight Lecture
DESCRIPTION:Birds\, Bats & Bugs: The Underlying Unity of Flight\, Richard Fichera.  \nTHERE IS NO ADVANCE REGISTRATION REQUIRED FOR THIS PROGRAM. This lecture is FREE for all to attend.\nRichard’s background spans 50 years in the computer industry with strong interests in a number of related technical fields and an undergraduate engineering\, math and science background at UC Berkeley. His interest in birds began about 7 years ago when he retired and immediately took the Cornell Bird Biology course. \nRichard’s curiosity about avian flight was piqued when he attended a lecture at Joppa Flats in Newburyport where a statement was made that bats use a different mechanism than birds to fly and somehow “swim” through the air. Richard dug into this topic using his technical background to explore animal flight mechanics\, and developed this presentation both as a way to educate himself and share his learning with others.  \nJoin us at Fivesparks during the Birds! Exhibit to learn about flight from Richard\, member of the Boxborough Birders.  \nThis lecture is FREE for all to attend.  Friday\, May 8\, 7pm.  \nThe Birds! curated art exhibit as well as the corresponding bird-related events and programs were planned in partnership with the Boxborough Birders Group.

SUMMARY:Birds! Exhibit Event - Artist Talk with Barry Van Dusen: Out the Studio Window
DESCRIPTION:OUT THE STUDIO WINDOWS\nan illustrated talk by Barry Van Dusen \nMany artists travel widely in search of new subjects\, while others spend their entire artistic lives much closer to home. Andrew Wyeth did all of his work in two small areas of Maine and Pennsylvania\, and Claude Monet spent the last four decades of his life painting the gardens right out his back door. \nNature artist Barry Van Dusen has done his share of traveling\, but he\, too\, continues to find abundant inspiration nearby – many of his paintings feature subjects observed out the windows of his studio in central Massachusetts. \nIn this one-hour illustrated talk\, Barry takes you along in his explorations of nature “Out the Studio Windows”. \nThis program is being offered as part of the Birds! exhibit on view at Fivesparks from April 18 – May 30\, 2026.  \nTo reserve your spot\, please register HERE.  \nThe Birds! curated art exhibit as well as the corresponding bird-related events and programs were planned in partnership with the Boxborough Birders Group.

SUMMARY:Orchard Women of Harvard
DESCRIPTION:In late summer and early fall\, city-dwellers and locals are drawn to the beautiful orchards of Harvard\, Massachusetts to pick fruit straight from the trees.  For the past few years\, photographer Ellen Harasimowicz has visited four of these orchards in all seasons\, searching for the extraordinary within the ordinary. \n In this International Year of the Woman Farmer *\, she presents an exhibition of four women who own and manage these local orchards. Two grew up in the business\, one married into it\, and one revived an abandoned orchard and made it organic. The women\, whose ages span decades\, are strong and productive like their fruit trees. Both the women and their trees embody beauty\, resilience\, and hope\, while providing rootedness and nourishment for their community. The orchardists face similar climate and economic challenges\, but each finds her own way to meet them. \nThis exhibition is a collaboration with the orchardists  – Pam Lawson (Doe Orchards) and Linda Hoffman (Old Frog Pond Farm)\, who are showing their artwork alongside Ellen’s photography\, and Stephanie Green O’Keefe (Westward Orchards) and Katie Carlson (Carlson Orchards)\, who are contributing family stories and photos. \nOn view February 28\, 2026 – April 11\, 2026. \nMeet the artists and orchardists at the Opening Reception\, free and open to all\, Sunday\, March 8\, 2026 3:00-5:00pm. \n*The United Nations declared 2026 the International Year of the Woman Farmer. \n  \nThis program is funded in part by a grant from the Harvard Cultural Council\, a local agency which is supported by Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency.

SUMMARY:LAST DAY TO VIEW - Inheritance: The Art of Sebastian Ambrus Kiss and Mercedes Lucia Kiss\, Father and Daughter in Dialogue.
DESCRIPTION:July 13\, 2024 is the last day to view this exhibit.   \nINHERITANCE\n: the acquisition of a trait from past generations\n: a valuable possession that is a common heritage from nature\n \nINHERITANCE is a joint show between Sebastian Ambrus Kiss and Mercedes Lucia Kiss\, father and daughter. It is a conversation between their styles\, subjects\, and stories. The pieces – many being shown to the public for the first time – span oceans and landscapes\, figures and fantasies\, an immigration and a generation.\n\n \nFor the Kisses\, art and architecture distinguish their ancestry. Creative expression was the first communication\, the native language. Artistry is the energy coursing through the family tree\, and their creations bond the branches.
