SUMMARY:Birds! Exhibit Event: Needle-Felted Cardinals with Lyn Slade
DESCRIPTION:During this 3 hour workshop\, you’ll create a 2-D needle felted “painting” of a beautiful pair of cardinals on a pine branch.. All needle felting materials are included\, as well as the use of the instructors tools. \nYou will leave with the completed art in a 11” x 14” mat ready for framing. \nNeedle felting is a fast\, fun\, forgiving medium. Lyn has been teaching and exhibiting for 20 years and will share her knowledge with humor and care. No experience is necessary. DESCRIPTION:Pastel painting with a focus on local landscapes but you are welcome to explore whatever interests you. \nI’ll share my process including exploring composition\, values\, color and mark-making. DESCRIPTION:Join Miss Lisa for a fun\, hands-on slime club where kids will learn how to make a different type of slime each week! \nParticipants will mix their own slime and customize it with fun add-ins like glitter\, sequins\, and foam beads. DESCRIPTION:OUT THE STUDIO WINDOWS\nan illustrated talk by Barry Van Dusen \nMany artists travel widely in search of new subjects\, while others spend their entire artistic lives much closer to home. DESCRIPTION:Age-old practices of meditation\, such as Zen\, remain an effective means of promoting stress-reduction and attaining self-awareness. \nThis series\, entitled “Music is Meditation\,” will explore the possibilities of using “musical mantras” in the place of verbal ones in the practice of collective meditation. \nEach session will entail two 20-minute meditation periods\, each employing recurrent musical motives or tranquil meandering themes\, played on keyboard\, as a focus for inward centering. \nThe first meeting will begin with a brief introduction to the practice of collective meditation. \nParticipants should wear comfortable clothing\, and bring a small mat if intending to sit on the floor. Drawing on decades of experience\, Mara offers demonstrations\, support\, and practical insights that help artists find their creative rhythm. Sessions conclude with an optional informal sharing time for feedback or conversation about their work. All levels are welcome. \nYou may bring work in progress or start something new. Please bring your own references (photographic or real-life objects)\, drawing tools\, and supplies. DESCRIPTION:Birds\, Bats & Bugs: The Underlying Unity of Flight\, Richard Fichera.  \nRichard’s background spans 50 years in the computer industry with strong interests in a number of related technical fields and an undergraduate engineering\, math and science background at UC Berkeley. His interest in birds began about 7 years ago when he retired and immediately took the Cornell Bird Biology course. \nRichard’s curiosity about avian flight was piqued when he attended a lecture at Joppa Flats in Newburyport where a statement was made that bats use a different mechanism than birds to fly and somehow “swim” through the air. Richard dug into this topic using his technical background to explore animal flight mechanics\, and developed this presentation both as a way to educate himself and share his learning with others.  \nJoin us at Fivesparks during the Birds!
