SUMMARY:ART RECEPTION - In Awe of Nature: Two Artistic Perspectives
DESCRIPTION:Stéphanie Elkort and Judith Stein \n  \nART RECEPTION: Sunday\, July 28th. 3:00-5:00pm. \nAll are welcome to meet the artists and celebrate the opening of our new exhibit. \n“When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it\, it’s your world for a moment.  I want to give that world to someone else.”  Georgia O’Keefe \nEnchanted by the beauty and intricacies of flowers and foliage\, Stéphanie and Judith embarked on a joint project of creating photographs and monoprints that were coordinated in some artistic way – shapes\, colors\, rhythms\, or textures.  Their collaboration sparked their creativity and fueled their productivity.  Their hope is that viewers will be intrigued by the fine details\, the subtle and muted color palettes\, and the varied textures embedded in these works.  Their goal is to engage viewers\, bring them   closer to their creative processes\, and share their love and appreciation of nature’s beauty.  \nJudith’s botanical monoprints were created by spreading thin layers of acrylic paint on a gelli-plate and applying a variety of dried leaves\, feathers\, and petals.  Then paper is put on top\, pressed\, and peeled off to create each monoprint.  The prints are all on acid-free Japanese rice\, mulberry and tea bag papers.  \nStéphanie’s digital photographs tend toward hyperrealism and minimalism.  Usually shot with her favorite macro lens\, her giclée prints are rendered as matte images on fine art paper with a subtle texture\, often leading viewers to ask if they are paintings.  \n  \n

SUMMARY:2024 Summer Plein Air Artists Group
DESCRIPTION:This program has reached its maximum capacity. We hope you will consider another program at Fivesparks in the future! \n\nFacilitators: Ann Gillespie (agillespieart@gmail.com) and Judy Warner (awarner@charter.net). \nEnjoy the rewarding experience of creating art out-of-doors in Harvard! This group will meet weekly for six weeks to paint together in local private and public areas\, including some beautiful sites not usually accessible to the public. While plein air is wonderful\, it can be daunting and difficult to get out consistently on a solo basis. The commitment to painting with a group can be extremely helpful in “making it happen” and is also fun and rewarding. \nAll levels are encouraged to participate\, from beginner to professional\, and artists are welcome to create in the medium of their choice. While this program’s volunteer facilitators are generously donating their time to plan\, organize\, and manage the series\, they won’t be providing actual instruction; all participants are encouraged to share ideas\, tips and fellowship. \nDonation: $100 for the six sessions.  All proceeds to benefit Fivesparks. \nSpace is limited. \nDates:  Thursdays\, June 6\, 13\, 20\, & 27; July 11 & 18 (rain dates Friday of same week\, or resheduled as warranted; no session week of July 4th)\nTime:   2:30-5:30pm \nRegistrants will receive tips for plein air and the schedule with locations\, in advance of the sessions. \n

SUMMARY:LAST DAY TO VIEW - Inheritance: The Art of Sebastian Ambrus Kiss and Mercedes Lucia Kiss\, Father and Daughter in Dialogue.
DESCRIPTION:July 13\, 2024 is the last day to view this exhibit.   \nINHERITANCE\n: the acquisition of a trait from past generations\n: a valuable possession that is a common heritage from nature\n \nINHERITANCE is a joint show between Sebastian Ambrus Kiss and Mercedes Lucia Kiss\, father and daughter. It is a conversation between their styles\, subjects\, and stories. The pieces – many being shown to the public for the first time – span oceans and landscapes\, figures and fantasies\, an immigration and a generation.\n\n \nFor the Kisses\, art and architecture distinguish their ancestry. Creative expression was the first communication\, the native language. Artistry is the energy coursing through the family tree\, and their creations bond the branches.

SUMMARY:LAST WEEK TO VIEW - Inheritance: The Art of Sebastian Ambrus Kiss and Mercedes Lucia Kiss\, Father and Daughter in Dialogue.
DESCRIPTION:This is the last week to view this exhibit.   \nOn view through July 13\, 2024.

SUMMARY:Author Event & Book Release: Helen Batchelder - 'Up on End and Spinning'
DESCRIPTION:Come enjoy a late afternoon treat at Fivesparks! Tasteful goodies\, iced teas\, and a book reading — who could ask for more? \nAuthor Helen Batchelder is a lifetime resident of Harvard\, Massachusetts\, recently “removed” to southwest of Worcester. \nThis event heralds the release of her novel\, Up on End and Spinning\, diving into the breadth of effects families have on our later relationships as experienced by Sarah Hartford\, daughter of Margaret\, famous poet and activist. \nBatchelder explores psychology\, philosophy\, gendered perceptions\, and New England culture in the last 25 years of the 20th century. It’s not dystopian\, science fiction\, or action adventure. It’s literary fiction with a touch of mystery\, a story of loss and regret\, rage and change\, love and persistence — and learning to believe in oneself. \nSegments of the book will be read\, allowing for audience discussion. \nBatchelder has served as an historian\, lecturer\, lay sermon writer\, teacher\, and more. She is a poet\, song writer\, and vocalist. \nThe book will be available for purchase\, and is available through Amazon. \nFREE and open to the public.

The ability to group kids into semi-private lessons offers the opportunity for middle-low income families to participate in quality music education.  \nSteve Peisch has taught music at several schools\, including the New England Conservatory\, Deerfield Academy\, Lawrence Academy\, The Indian Hill Music School (now called the Groton Hill Music Center) the Bromfield School\, and Hildreth Elementary School. \nMost recently\, he has focused on providing excellent and enjoyable music classes for the youngest elementary school age children\, having learned from first-hand experience that providing a strong foundation at this level will strengthen the music programs that follow in both middle and high schools. \nPeisch is committed to developing curiosity and creativity in young people\, to sequencing instruction carefully and in conversation with other music teachers\, to broadcasting high expectations in music and other arts classes\, and to encouraging music students to make connections with other subject areas. \nPeisch’s music is available on his website\, http://hundredsrecords.com/index.html\, and his recommendations for arts educators can be found on his company’s website\, http://www.newdirectionsinartseducation.com/ \nContact Peisch at stevepeisch2@gmail.com with questions\, pricing information and to register.

SUMMARY:ART RECEPTION - Inheritance: The Art of Sebastian Ambrus Kiss and Mercedes Lucia Kiss\, Father and Daughter in Dialogue.
DESCRIPTION:Art Reception\, FREE and open to all.  Sunday\, June 9\, 3-5pm.

SUMMARY:Caverns of Youth: A live music release from Emma Sullivan\, with Erin Sullivan
DESCRIPTION:Acoustic songwriter Emma Sullivan returns home to Harvard for an evening of live music from her debut EP\, Caverns of Youth. She shares the stage with her mother and local resident\, Erin Ash Sullivan (pictured below)\, who will share songs from her sophomore album Signposts and Marks. \n \nA 2015-Bromfield graduate\, Emma is now based in San Diego\, Calif.\, where her indie folk music is inspired by the rural woods of Massachusetts and the laid back groove of Southern California. Caverns of Youth was recorded in Harvard\, at the home of a fellow Bromfield classmate in summer of 2023. \nEmma‘s music distinctly blends storytelling elements of folk music with foot-tapping melodies. Often compared to contemporaries like Madison Cunningham\, Laura Marling\, and Carole King\, Emma Sullivan and Erin Ash Sullivan invite you to join them for an intimate evening of song. \nThis is a donation-based event.  For questions\, please contact Emma Sullivan at hello@emmafrances.net.
