SUMMARY:Becoming
DESCRIPTION:ON THE SHOW BECOMING \nBecoming is part retrospective\, part new work.  While not Judith Schutzman’s first solo show – others were at Indian Hill Music (now Groton Hill Music Center)\, Emerson Hospital\, and two on Long Island – this is the first place award from the Destination Nature show 2024\, sponsored jointly by Harvard’s Conservation Trust and Fivesparks.    \nThe winning triptych is included in the show along with other block prints\, monotypes\, monoprints\, and collaged prints.  There are also drawings\, oil paintings\, watercolors\, Asian brush paintings\, collages\, pastels\, and sculpture\, reflecting Judith’s expansive interests and media.   \nJudith waited until her retirement from teaching English to begin art study. Then she opted to explore\, seeking great teachers\, people she respected for their work and integrity as human beings.  Many became friends as well as mentors. \nBecoming  is on view at Fivesparks from Saturday\, November 22\, 2025 through Saturday\, January 3\, 2026. \nAn Artist Reception will be held on Sunday\, December 7\, 3-5pm.  Judith will present a brief artist talk and time for questions directly before the reception at 2:30pm.

SUMMARY:Snapology Winter Vacation Program: Science of Superpowers & Mega Machines Robotics
DESCRIPTION: Morning Session: Science of Superpowers\nBring your favorite superheroes to life while discovering the science behind their incredible powers!\nStudents will explore the fascinating world of forces\, energy\, and physics through hands-on building and fun experiments. They’ll design superhero models\, vehicles\, and accessories inspired by heroes like Superman\, Batman\, and Wonder Woman — all while learning about: \nFlight forces\, collisions\, and air pressure \nGravity\, friction\, and energy transfer \nScientific experimentation and problem-solving \nChildren will compare the “super” world to real-life science as they test\, experiment\, and think critically. It’s a super-powered way to make learning physics fun! \n Afternoon Session: Mega Machines Robotics\nIn the afternoon\, young engineers will take their skills to the next level with Mega Machines Robotics\, a machinery-focused program where creativity meets coding. Students will work in teams to design and program spectacular robotic vehicles using LEGO® robotics kits and Scratch-based coding. \nThrough exciting challenges\, they’ll learn how to: \nProgram and debug robotic models \nUtilize sensors\, gears\, motors\, and axles \nCollaborate effectively with partners \nFollow instructions and refine builds through iteration \nBy the end of the week\, students will not only have built amazing machines but also gained confidence in coding\, problem-solving\, and teamwork — all while having a blast! \nChildren can register for: \nMorning sessions only: Science of Superpowers\, ages 5-12\, 9am-12:00pm\, $200/participant. Click HERE to register for the morning program. \nAfternoon sessions only: Mega Machines Robotics\, ages 6-12\, 12:30-3:30pm\, $200/participant. Click HERE to register for the afternoon program. \nAll-day fun: Science of Superpowers + Mega Machines Robotics\, ages 6-12\, 9am-3:30pm\, $350/participant. Click HERE to register for the all-day program. \nDecember 29\, 30\, 31 & Jan 2 (no class on Jan 1\, 2026) \n_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ \nSnapology is the premier partner for STEAM programs worldwide. SUMMARY:Snapology: School Half Day Workshop - Brick Art & Design: Abstract Art
DESCRIPTION:Snapology’s Brick Art & Design: Abstract Art Workshop\nIn this creative\, half-day workshop\, students will explore the world of abstract art and the artists who shaped it. Through hands-on building using LEGO® and guided activities\, students will examine the whimsical landscapes of Van Gogh\, the bold abstraction of Picasso\, and the geometric designs of Mondrian. They’ll learn how artists communicate ideas through color\, shape\, and pattern and then create their own abstract masterpieces inspired by these iconic styles. \nAlong the way\, students will:\n• Build Art History Knowledge – Discover influential artists across history and design LEGO® builds inspired by their techniques.\n• Strengthen Presentation Skills – Share their creations in a fun\, low-pressure environment that builds confidence and comfort speaking in front of peers.\n• Practice Teamwork – Work with partners and small groups to plan\, build\, and collaborate while developing positive\, respectful communication skills.\nThis workshop blends creativity\, art appreciation\, and playful learning—perfect for students who love building\, designing\, and expressing themselves through hands-on projects! \nDrop-Off & Pick-Up Instructions\nThe workshop will take place inside The Gallery at Fivesparks (on the main floor in the back). \nFor safety and to help protect the art exhibits upstairs: Caregivers must sign children in and out directly from the classroom. Please come to The Gallery at pickup so we can dismiss your child safely. SUMMARY:An Afternoon of Irish Music with Sarah Collins & Jonathan Vocke
DESCRIPTION:Sarah Collins and Jonathan Vocke bring a fresh take to Irish music\, pairing traditional fiddle melodies with old time two-fingered banjo. Drawing inspiration from the Celtic traditions that Sarah grew up with in the Boston area and the old-time and folk scene that Jonathan calls home in Baltimore\, the pair explores the space at the intersection of these musical styles. The music they create together is first and foremost about groove\, and plays with the balance of lightness\, sensitivity\, and grounding. The program of music will include Irish\, Scottish\, and Old Time tunes and songs\, featuring fiddle\, guitar\, and banjo. \nSarah grew up in Harvard\, graduating from Bromfield in 2010\, and is excited to return to town and share her music with family and friends. \nAll are welcome.  Tickets ($20) will be sold at the door via cash\, Venmo or Paypal.
