My artistic awakening\, however\, only started 6 years ago when I began hand-building. Since then\, I’ve grown as a creator and continue to learn more about the possibilities of this exciting medium. I am a slow ceramicist\, and I like it that way! Hand-building allows me to spend more time with each piece – gradually building it to its final form\, then refining with careful attention to the lines and textures.

DESCRIPTION:Randy Hodgkinson was the Grand Prize Winner of the Fourth International American Music Competition sponsored by Carnegie Hall and the Rockefeller Foundation. Over his forty-year career\, he has performed with orchestras in Atlanta\, Philadelphia\, Buffalo\, Boston\, Cleveland as well as abroad in Italy and Iceland. In addition\, he has performed numerous recital programs spanning the repertoire from J.S. Bach to Donald Martino. He is on the faculty of the New England Conservatory of Music\, Wellesley College\, and the Longy School of Music. \nIn this presentation\, Randy will discuss aspects of Bach’s Goldberg Variations that will guide the listeners through a complete performance of this monumental work. \nThis performance is supported by a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

DESCRIPTION:Ann Gillespie is an award-winning artist in pastels and printmaking.  Pastels have been her primary focus since 2012\, with periodic forays in printmaking and other painting. She is passionate about landscape painting\, especially painting “en plein air” which helps her observe color and light more directly and keeps her more connected to nature.  \nAnn has been teaching Pastel Painting at Fivesparks for several years.  This class series will have a focus on local landscape inspiration. Basics will include use of underpainting\, composition\, color\, values and mark-making. She will also help you consider your motivation for painting a scene to determine mood\, what to leave in or out\, and movement through a painting. \nEach class will start with a demo followed by plenty of painting time and one-on-one feedback.
