$685

Harvard FIRST LEGO League Challenge Robotics Team
Ages 9–14 | Tuesdays, 5:30–7:00 PM | Fivesparks, Harvard, MA
September 22–December 15, 2026 | 12 classes
No class November 24
Registration: $685 per student

Build. Code. Research. Compete.
Join a competitive robotics team experience where students design, build, and program an autonomous LEGO robot, complete a real-world research project, and compete in an official FIRST LEGO League tournament.
Students work in teams of 4–6 members to:
Build and program a LEGO SPIKE Prime robot for competition missions
Research a real-world biodiversity problem and develop an innovative solution
Prepare a team presentation for judges
Compete at a Massachusetts FIRST LEGO League qualifying tournament
This is not a drop-in robotics class. Students are part of a season-long competitive team where they collaborate, make decisions together, test ideas, solve problems, and prepare for an official competition.

Team size & commitment
Teams are made up of 4–6 students
Registration is capped at 6 students per team
If full, families are encouraged to join the waitlist for possible additional teams
Because this is a team-based competition, students should be prepared to:
Attend consistently
Share responsibilities
Communicate respectfully
Contribute actively to team decisions and work

Registration includes
Full participation in FIRST LEGO League Challenge
One regional qualifying tournament entry
Tournament registration fee
Each class will have one instructor and one assistant that are both experienced with Spike Prime robotics.
If the team advances to the Massachusetts Championship, there will be an additional $50 per student to cover extra practice sessions and chaperoning.

What students will do
🤖 Robot Game
Design, build, and program an autonomous LEGO SPIKE Prime robot
Learn and analyze competition missions and rules
Develop and test strategies for scoring points on the field
Continuously improve robot design and programming
Compete in timed matches at a qualifying tournament
🌎 Innovation Project
Teams will:
Identify a biodiversity-related problem
Research real-world causes and existing solutions
Develop an original innovative solution
Create a prototype, model, or visual representation
Refine ideas based on feedback
Present their project to judges at competition

🤝 Teamwork & Core Values
Students are evaluated not only on performance, but on how they work together using FIRST Core Values:
Discovery, Innovation, Impact, Inclusion, Teamwork, and Fun
They will learn how strong teams communicate, share responsibility, support one another, and improve through challenges.

What is the competition like?
At the end of the season, teams attend a FIRST LEGO League qualifying tournament in Massachusetts (typically mid-November through early December). Teams that qualify may advance to a Championship event in mid-December.
At competition, students will:
Compete in Robot Game matches
Present their Innovation Project to judges
Explain their robot design and programming
Demonstrate teamwork and problem-solving
Receive feedback and celebrate their work
The Robot Game is only one part of the event—teams are also evaluated on their project, engineering process, and collaboration.

About the 2026–27 BIOGLOW™ Season
This season’s BIOGLOW™ challenge focuses on biodiversity and ecosystems. Teams explore how human activity and environmental changes impact living systems and develop solutions to real-world problems.
Students follow an engineering design process:
IDENTIFY → DESIGN → CREATE → ITERATE → COMMUNICATE
They will research, prototype, test, improve, and present their ideas while also preparing their robot for competition missions on the BIOGLOW field.

FLL is designed for students ready to take ownership of a long-term engineering challenge and experience real-world teamwork and competition.

Is this program right for my child?
This team is a great fit for students who:
Enjoy LEGO, robotics, coding, or engineering
Like solving open-ended problems
Are willing to try, fail, and improve
Enjoy working in teams
Want a real competition experience
Are ready for a longer-term project commitment
No prior FLL experience is required. Curiosity, creativity, and teamwork matter most.

Important: Team commitment
Because students are building and competing as a team, consistent attendance is essential. Every student contributes to the robot, project, and presentation, and the team depends on each member’s participation throughout the season.

Let’s build something amazing together!
